Today was my day. Once a month I have a self care day. I go to an appointment for a facial and before I leave the spa, I book my next appointment. If I don’t I’ll never fit it in.
It is extremely relaxing for me and rejuvenating. I meditate to the music as my wonderful aesthetician massages my face and erases all my wrinkles with her magic mermaid powder and unicorn salve.
I am 35 years old and I have only recently started doing this about 6 months ago. I used to think that self care was unnecessary, selfish even.
I would pride myself on how selfless I was. Always taking care of my kids, my husband, my home, my business, my team, rarely myself. Look at me, I thought, I’m superwoman! Just look at all the things I can juggle, just look at how selfless I am!
Until I realized I wasn’t.
Not taking time for myself was selfish.
I was running on empty. I wasn’t my best. I was tired, and irritated. Doesn’t my family and my team deserve the best me?
You can only give what you have. So if you want to be selfless, it’s your duty to have joy, vigor, positivity, encouragement, patience, excitement, and energy.
How can you have any of those things if you are not allowing yourself any self care? You have to fill up your tank regularly.
If the airplane is going down they tell you to put your oxygen mask on first, then assist your children. You can’t assist anyone if you’re knocked out. It’s the truth, even though it seems counterintuitive.
Be selfless. Make time for you. Find it in the budget, find it in your schedule, you are worth it.
